INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION OF DANCE ROSETA MAURI
The FUNDACIÓ TEATRE FORUNY, of Reus (Spain), convokes the INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION OF DANCE "ROSETA MAURI", which will take place from the 15th to the 19th of March of 2011, according to the following rules:
RULES
1. GENERAL CONDITIONS
1.1 Dancers of any nationality, between the ages of 16 and 21 years old, including those with birthdays in the year can participate.
1.2 Application forms must be completed according to the stipulated conditions and accompanied by a payment of 50 Euros by February 28th, 2011. This fee will not be refunded under any condition.
1.3 The "INTERNATIONAL ROSETA MAURI Dance Award" is a grant with a first prize value of 6.000 Euros, a 2nd prize value of 2.000 Euros and a 3rd prize of 1.000 Euros. All prizes with endowment will be applied the appropriate tax deduction. The payment of the prizes will be made via bank transfer, to an account number that the contestant will have given to the organisation beforehand. The organization reserves its right to award complementary grants in the form of short courses and other forms of recognition which are associated with the dance field, to entities such as dance organizations, companies and dance academies.
1.4 The contestants must present themselves at the Teatre Fortuny in Reus on 15th March 2011 at 10 a.m. to collect their credentials. They should have their music recorded on a CD and the duration should not exceed 3 minutes. Each CD should be clearly marked with the full name of the contestant, the title of the variation and its composer.
At 3 p.m. on the same day, all of the contestants must take the classical and contemporary dance class with the official instructors of the competition. These classes will not be adjudicated and will be held without the presence of the jury. However, the official instructors who will be giving the classes will eliminate those competitors who do not have the required technical level.
1.5 The trials will be held on the Teatre Fortuny stage, which measures approximately 9.1 m wide, by 10 m deep -the stage is slanted 5%. The competition will have the general lighting of a theatre spotlight and with a blue toned cyclorama background.
1.6 The jury, chaired by Ángel Corella, will be integrated by important dance personalities.
1.7 The organizers assume no responsibility for injuries incurred during the competition, and dancers are advised to obtain adequate personal insurance that will cover this contingency.
2. VARIATIONS THAT SHOULD BE PRESENTED
All of the competitors should prepare and present two variations:
A) A variation of traditional repertoire with a maximum duration of 3 minutes is required and must be selected from the list of variations which follow below.
B) A free variation with a maximum duration of 3 minutes for boys and girls is recommended and also that the style of the free variation should be different from the classical variation and should allow the dancer to show their ability to adapt to different styles. A contemporary variation or a variation with a modern application is recommended.
The jury will pay special attention to qualities such as interpretation and adaptation to style as well as the selected music.
Dancers will choose one of the following variations for the traditional female repertoire:
-Giselle variation of Giselle, 1st act
-Raimonda 1st variation, 1st act
2nd variation, 2nd act
-Sleeping Beauty variation of Aurora, 3rd act
variation of the fairy Lila (prologue)
-Swan lake 1st act, pas de trois, 1st variation
1st act, pas de trois, 2nd variation
-Coppelia variation of Swanilda
-Flower Festival in Genzano Pas de deux variation (Bournonville)
-Le Corsaire variation pas de deux
-Bayadere (The Kingdom of the shadows) variation I, II & III
Dancers will choose one of the following variations of the traditional male repertoire:
-Giselle variation of prince Albrecht, 2nd act
-Sleeping Beauty variation of prince Desire, 3rd act
variation of the blue bird
-Nutcracker variation of the great pas de deux (tarantella)
-Don Quixote variation
-Le corsaire variation
-Swan Lake 3rd act, pas de deux, the black swan, variation
-La Sylphide variation 1st act, only James (version of Lovenskjold-Bournonville)
variation 2nd act, only James (version of Lovenskjold-Bournonville)
variation 1st act, only James (version of Schneitzhoeffer-Lacotte)

3. ORDER OF PARTICIPATION
The order of participation will be established by the technical management according to the number with which each contestant will be assigned. The order of finalists will be determined by the aforementioned number.
4. ELIMINATION
On 16th March, 2011, two classes will be held, a classical and a contemporary class. These will be held behind closed doors -neither teachers nor family members the contestants will be allowed to be present. At the end of each class, the judges will eliminate those competitors who did not obtain a sufficient mark to go on to the next elimination phase. In the next elimination phase, the contestant must present their classical and free variations in the theatre wearing their performance clothes. At the end of this round, the jury will eliminate the contestants whose results were insufficient.
The same day in the afternoon, all of the dancers who have passed the semi-finals will perform their classical and free variations, at the theatre stage with their performance clothes. This session is open to the public and will be held at the Teatre Fortuny stage in Reus. At the end of the performances the jury will meet to deliberate the result and select the contestants who will pass to the final round. The result will be stated the same day.
5. FINAL
The final round will be held on the same stage on Thursday, 17th of March 2011 and will be open to the general public. All of the selected contestants will take a class on the stage and finally dance their classical and contemporary variations in their performance clothes. Afterwards the jury will announce the winners.
6. DANCE GALA
The winners assume the responsibility to participate in the dance gala held on Saturday night the 19th March 2009 from 9 p.m. All the contestants must come prepared to perform at the gala. The judges will decide on the criteria for the performances and the organizers will arrange the program.
7. TRAVEL AND MAINTENANCE EXPENSES
Contestants will have to pay for the expenses of the journey to Reus and the accommodation in town. Only semi-finalists (max.10) will get the amount 150 Euros as allowance for the accommodation and travelling expenses.
8. PHOTOGRAPHS FILMS AND VISUAL AND AUDIOVISUAL RECORDINGDS
These recordings may be used for promotion or commercial purposes and could benefit a third party. The contestants agree to give rights irrevocably to the organization for these recordings permanently and without the limit of size of time. Only the organizing committee will be permitted to sign contracts based on these recordings. The participants will not have the right to receive fees for the recordings that were made during the competition.
9. THE RIGHT TO MAKE A CLAIM
Only the Fundació Teatre Fortuny will have the right to make decisions about any variation according to what is stipulated in the norms of the competition. The jury’s decision in the selection and elimination process, and the award of the prizes is final. No debate as to their decision will be entertained. Validity of these rules will be governed by the Catalan version of established norms.
